Can an unlocked phone be used on Any Carrier?

I know that some phones are GSM and others are CDMA
but is it possible for a GSM phone to work on a different CDMA carrier once unlocked?
or is it only possible for GSM with GSM and so on?

Both GSM and CDMA networks are Tecchnologically different, and both the phones are Incompatible with each other, so you cannot use a GSM phone on a CDMA phone
